On Thursday, June 18, Vinnies Canberra/Goulbourn held its annual (COVID-19-modified) CEO Sleepout. Several members of the Preventive Dentistry team participated in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout this year. We’ve captured their experiences in this article.
Winter has arrived and it’s getting cold! There’s frost on our lawns and snow on the mountains. On Thursday 18 June, Preventive Dentistry will participate in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Canberrans in need.
Our dentists Drs Steve Lising, Ann Duong, Scott Park, Deanne Carr and one of our hygienists Rachael Walton, will be sleeping rough just like the 116,000 homeless people around Australia. We hope that our one-night experience raises awareness about the bleak reality that homeless people endure night after night, day after day. [Read more…]
As a way of giving back to the community, both Dr Steve and Dr Scott will be participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout in Canberra this year.
As many of you may already know, Dr Steve has participated in the Sleepout several times. His first Sleepout was in 2013, when his daughter Hanna was still a baby. As well as being for a good cause, he naively thought the event would give him the opportunity to have a night of uninterrupted sleep away from a crying baby – boy was he in for a surprise!! The article explains the philosophy and process behind the design of our beautiful rooms in Braddon.
….the objective was to relieve patient anxiety by avoiding the typical “sterile” clinical feel of a dental surgery and instead focusing on patient comfort using modern interior design to evoke a “fresh, clean, airy” feel.

In March 2018, principal dentist Dr Steve Lising was interviewed about the SoproLIFE intraoral camera for an advertorial feature in Bite Magazine.
Dr Steve has been using intraoral cameras for over 20 years, and introduced the SoproLIFE into the practice in 2016. The article explains:
(Dr Steve)….sees enormous value in using the SoproLIFE for patient education, by allowing patients to see problems for themselves and helping them understand the diagnosis and treatment options.
Dr Steve continues:
The SoproLIFE gives you great confidence in the diagnosis and treatment plan and is also a valuable medico-legal record of the treatments performed. I use the SoproLIFE on all new patients and at subsequent appointments and save the images to the patient file to compare later on to monitor teeth over time. Often it convinces me not to explore stained fissures.”
