Invisalign uses innovative technology that allows teeth to be straightened without the use of braces. The aligners are quickly and easily removable as needed, and practically invisible while worn. This service has become very popular in our practice due to how comfortable and effective the treatment is.
How Invisalign® Works
An Invisalign orthodontic solution consists of a series of removable clear plastic aligners that gradually straighten the teeth, moving them to a more ideal position over time. Each set of aligners is worn over the teeth for a continuous period of approximately 2 weeks before being replaced by the next set in the sequence. The number of different aligners required and the total duration of the procedure depends on how much your teeth need to be moved.
Unlike braces, these aligners are very comfortable and can be effortlessly removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. There are no metal wires or brackets involved, just the clear, lightweight aligners.
The Process
The following is an outline of the Invisalign procedure:
Step 1: Visit an Invisalign® Accredited Dentist
Preventive Dentistry is an accredited Canberra Invisalign provider. During the initial visit, we will examine your teeth, assess your needs, then plan and discuss the course of treatment with you. Following this, we’ll take records and impressions of your teeth which will then be sent off to Invisalign.
Step 2: Invisalign® makes your aligners
Invisalign uses its advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to transform your dental impressions into a precisely custom-made series of clear and removable aligners. These are then sent back to the dentist.
Step 3: You receive your clear aligners in a few weeks
You visit your dentist to receive your first set of aligners. Small tooth coloured attachments may need to be bonded on to the teeth to aid treatment. You may also be issued with the next 2 or 3 sets of aligners to take home.
Step 4: You wear your aligners
You’ll wear each set of clear aligners day and night for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Your dentist will schedule your appointments every 6-8 weeks to check progress, place or remove attachments, or do adjustments as needed.
Step 5: You've finished treatment!
Once you’ve gone through the full set of aligners, then congratulations, you’ve finished! Your treatment is complete, and your teeth are much straighter.
