Infection and Quality Control Standards
Preventive Dentistry is strictly committed to ensuring the highest levels of infection and quality control for your safety.
We were one of the first general dental practices in Canberra to gain Dental Practice Accreditation by meeting the stringent requirements of the internationally recognised National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards (NSQHS Standards).
Independent accreditation provider Quality Innovation Performance (QIP) collaborated with the ADA to develop this voluntary accreditation scheme to promote continuous quality improvement leading to increased patient safety, and a reduction in clinical and general risks.
“Achieving accreditation demonstrates a commitment to the provision of excellent dental care and continuous quality improvement within the dental practice environment” – Quality Innovation Performance.
We autoclave (heat and pressure sterilise) all dental instruments before each use, and thoroughly disinfect all dental surgeries between each and every patient.
Our commitment to hygiene also involves using single use disposable materials whenever possible, and the use of barrier wraps over work surfaces in the dental surgeries.
Digital X-rays
The benefits of digital X-rays are that your exposure to radiation is greatly reduced (about 50% less than regular X-rays), results are quickly available and the image can be enhanced or magnified to aid diagnosis. The data files can be easily forwarded to specialists or other dentists as required and copies can be made simply.
Intra-oral Cameras
The intra-oral camera allows us to show and record valuable images such as the appearance of the gums, surface condition of fillings, small areas of decay, cracks and staining on teeth – things that can’t be seen on radiographs. Most of our patients find this insight into their mouth fascinating, allowing them to become more involved in the examination process and improving their understanding of oral health issues.
SoproLIFE® Diagnostic Camera
SoproLIFE® (Light Induced Fluorescence Evaluator) uses the scientific principle of autofluorescence to differentiate infected tooth from healthy tooth to assist in the diagnosis and removal of decay. Using this technology, some areas of tooth decay can be detected before they are visible on X-rays. It is also an indispensable aid for minimally invasive dentistry allowing us to accurately monitor small areas of decay rather than drill and fill.
Dental Diode Lasers
These lasers also known as soft tissue lasers are ideal devices for cutting or contouring the gums and other soft tissue. Not only are they capable of precision soft tissue incisions they simultaneously eliminate bleeding at the site and significantly reduce the healing time and discomfort for the patient. Dr Lising and Dr Park attained certification to operate dental lasers through the International Center for Laser Education.
Trios 3D Scanner
Our practice now routinely uses Trios 3D scanners. This cutting edge technology eliminates the need for dental impressions, as the teeth are scanned instead. Not only does this mean increased patient comfort, but the procedure has been shown to provide improved accuracy. The scanner is also able to shade match teeth for restorations that need to blend seamlessly with the adjacent tooth structure.
